Vital Truths - Jesus!
That is a very special name of a very special person.
When the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity came into the world of our sin and misery, God called him Jesus. In Matthew 1:21 we learn that God commanded that his name be called “Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.”
When God gives a name to someone we need to stop and listen, for He is telling us who and what that person really is.
Who is Jesus? He is Jehovah Our Salvation. That is what the name means. He is, the one, eternal, living and true God come down in mercy to save perishing sinners. We are taught to know him as Emmanuel, which means God with us (Matthew 1:23). We are therefore to understand that Jesus is unique among men. He is almighty God come down to save and deliver sinners. He is the Saviour in whom is the only hope of true life and happiness, both for ourselves and our children. This true knowledge of who Jesus is, greatly encourages us to listen to him when he speaks to us from the Bible, to believe him, and to trust him; for we know him as the mighty God and Saviour who has come in mercy to save his people.
What is Jesus? God tells us that Jesus means Saviour! He is the Saviour sent from God as the complete remedy for sin. He is sent to actually save his people. That means that he will not only deliver his people from their sin and its dreadful effects; from the guilt of disobedience to God, from slavery to sin, from death as a curse, and ultimately from hell itself; but also that he brings them into true life and happiness in God’s favour and friendship. He lifts them out of misery and gives them the hope of perfect happiness in God’s presence in heaven. He is the SAVIOUR!
How you need know this Jesus! Remember what the God who can not lie has taught us in the gospel: “There is salvation in no other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
